Frequently Asked Questions

The beginning of your martial arts journey can have a lot of questions. We will do our best to post the answers to our most common ones here.

Do I Need To Be Fit To Start Jiu Jitsu?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Everyone starts with a varied levels of fitness. You will find that participating in martial arts in CK will help you stay in shape on top of learning self defense. This is a fun workout that produces results!

How Fast will I Progress through The Belts?

The adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu belt system is more difficult than other martial arts. An adult training 3x a week may take 10 years to achieve a black belt.

This is because there are so few belts in Jiu Jitsu. Meaning that you may spend several years gaining up to 4 stripes on each belt studying martial arts in CK.

Children progress through 13 belts 4 stripes each as opposed to the 5 for adults.

The most important thing tio worry about is showing up to each class.

We have a saying that 'a Blackbelt is just a White Belt who didn't quit'.

What Do I Need To Bring To My First Martial Arts Lesson?

Make sure you're dressed comfortably so you can participate in sports! Shorts and T-Shirt are advised. (Front Rolls in a skirt isn't really a good idea.)

Bring a water bottle and a towel with you to your martial arts training. Martial arts classes for kids and adults are available in CK, and they are both a fantastic workout and a lot of fun! By the end of class, most pupils are beaming from ear to ear. I'm sure you will be as well!

Will the fact that I'm not particularly athletic or coordinated be a issue?

Nope! Many of our adult martial arts students would have described themselves in that manner before they started. You'll feel perfectly at home!

You'll be shocked at how much you can learn if you give yourself some time! Our highly qualified martial arts instructors have been taught to make instruction as simple as possible. This way, even the most clumsy of us will be ready for an action movie in no time!

Come have a look for yourself! Classes for Martial arts are available in CK!

What are the COVID Protocols?

Union Jiu Jitsu is a member of Ontario Jiu Jitsu Association (OJA). This is a provincially regulated body that provides us guidelines to abide by that change depending on current circumstances. All instructors and students are expected to abide by provincial regulations.

We will do everything within these regulations to keep bodies on the mats. This may include: Temperature guns, changing schedules to accommodate smaller class sizes, more frequent classes and having our instructors use rapid tests multiple times each week.

And rest assured our facility will be held to the highest sanitary standard and that the safety of our members and staff is our first priority.
